This was a first for the Friends of Lockers Park – an educational evening with a difference. Instead of learning about Internet Safety or How to help your child read, the FoLP spent the evening learning more about wine, cheese and chocolate. Nigel Barden, one of our parents, is a renowned food writer with a special interest in wine. You may have heard him on Radio Five Drive with Simon Mayo talking about food. He is actually following Simon to Scala Radio, where he will be continuing their partnership. Who would have thought a Headmaster could be a Master of Cheese – what a hidden talent, but that is exactly what our Headmaster, Christopher Wilson is. He spent his youth working at Neal’s Yard and became a cheese expert. The evening was spent with our experts talking about the wines and cheeses they had selected and as any teacher knows the best way to learn is to try things out, which is exactly what the audience did, munching and slurping their way through the samples. To top it all there was a chocolatier, Russell Pullan from 5th Dimension Chocolates on hand to talk about quality chocolate, which of course was also sampled – even the Brie flavoured ones!
