Friday 17 March saw the launch of the inaugural Lockers Park Preparatory School STEAM Day!
The event, in which every boy in the school took part, marked the end of our ‘Art of Invention’ themed cross-curricular week.
Down at Little Lockers our boys completed a range of challenges, including building tents for lego people. Up in the Prep School Year 3 became Town Planners for the day, designing and making a wind-turbine powered town complete with restaurants, toy shops, a playground, and even its very own football stadium!
Years 4 and 5 built some fantastic automata, investigating the different types of movement they could create, and designing a topper to suit. They completed their product with some eye-catching packaging.
Year 6 were our Secret-Agent Men, taking fingerprints, breaking codes, and designing their very own Super Spy Gadget Briefcases.
Years 7 and 8 joined forces to complete an Innovation Project; designing a product for augmenting the human body to achieve a superpower. The pupils had to complete a design sheet, manufacture a prototype, create a design-pitch presentation, and make a range of merchandise – including t-shirts, lanyards and badges. They presented their pitches in an assembly, with Haig coming out victorious with their Flow Suit designed to allow deep sea exploration.
It was an action-packed day and all of our pupils really showed off their creative flair to the full. We are already looking forward to next year! Well done to Mrs Diggory and Mr Phillips for coordinating such an excellent event.
