Being part of our community

Feeling part of the school is important to us, which is why we hold informal English conversation classes for our international parents.

Our inaugural lesson was hosted by Mrs Sims who created a fun and entertaining session. Beginning with a drawing activity that involved each member of the group taking turns to describe an image for everyone else to draw proved a valuable ice-breaker.

They moved on to conversation starters such as:
– which superpower would you most like to have?
– one thing you have taught someone else to do
– things that make you happy.

The answers prompted much laughter as well allowing the group to learn new things about each other. Many of the conversations contained anecdotes about children and ended with everyone sharing recipes for family favourite meals. The homework was to cook one of these – including a delicious recipe for chicken wings.
