Science in action

You can tell when something interesting is happening in a school by the noise. Working hard (!) in the staffroom, I heard excited voices where they shouldn’t be. Investigating, there were the Year 3s, carrying out a science experiment. They had made a variety of parachutes (some better than others) and were testing them to see which was best. Of course, to make it fair, they had to test them several times and use a stopwatch to time them. They were not where I expected them as they’d gone to the Boys’ Hall so they had a decent fall for their experiment. The best parachute was of course the one that took longest to descend.
