Saturday 2nd February was the Hemel Hempstead District Scouts Swimming Gala, an annual event held at Hemel Hempstead Sport Centre.
Our wonderful Cubs swam their hearts out, and some even raced against Cubs two years older than them! They came second out of 14 Cub packs which is absolutely fantastic and they have a shield to bring back to Lockers Park.
Then it was the Scouts’ turn – our team was small but perfectly formed of four Scouts. They did absolutely brilliantly and came joint first place with 1st Kings Langley and 1st Apsley Scouts (this has never been tied three ways before!).
In both the heats and the finals, the boys won every relay race – that is Cubs, Scouts, and the joint Cubs/Scouts one.
There is then the overall Swimming Gala competition, where all the points are added together from the Cubs races, the Scouts races, and the joint relay. And the winners (out of 14) were 7th Hemel Hempstead (Lockers Park)!
We am really proud of our boys, well done everyone! Sadly the Cubs had left before we could take photos, but we will rectify that on Thursday at their weekly meeting. Also, many thanks to our Cubs’ Young Leader (and Lockers Park old boy) Alex Kessell-Holland, who came to help poolside and made sure the boys didn’t miss races, joined in the cheering and generally helped with ‘crowd control’. Thanks too, to the parents who came to support the boys.
