ISA Athletics Regional Qualifier

The East Area Prep School’s Athletics Championships is always a competitive event and this year 52 schools were competing for spots in the National Finals at Birmingham. The day started well  with the field events and our U14 boys did outstandingly with Alfonso finishing 9th in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.41m, Kyle 11th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 8.22m and Roman 11th in the Shot with a throw of 8.38m. After these events the weather deteriorated, with the all weather track abandoned for 20 minutes as it looked more suitable for boats than runners. The focus then moved onto the track with Justin and Patrick running 100m and 200m. In the U14 races Justin ran 14.7 in the 100m finishing 5th in his heat and 29 in the 200m finishing 2nd and just missing out on National selection. Patrick ran remarkably finishing 2nd in both 100 and 200m qualifying in both races. His times 13.5 and 27.6. Alfonso also ran a personal best in the 300m setting a new school record of 45.7. Inspired by Patrick’s performance, George finished the day competing in the U12 High Jump where he set a new personal best, clearing 1.35m and finishing 2nd to also qualify for the national competition.
