Day 1
Our intrepid travellers boarded the aeroplane following an early start, enjoying the three hour flight to Iceland. On landing, everyone was amazed by the landscape and the views as the bus travelled around the island. Following a short journey to Reykjavik, the visitors took in the wonderful sights of the capital including Hallgrimskirkja Church. Everybody admired the organ, which apparently was far bigger and more impressive than Mr Shaw’s (!). They then went to the incredible Lava Caves where they experienced complete and total darkness. Onto the next stop of the tour!
Day 2
A full day of activity starting with the geothermal power station and a detailed explanation of why and how the Icelandic people have embraced this renewable energy source. This was followed by a golden circle tour looking at extinct volcanoes, Gullfoss waterfall and the Great Geyser.
Day 3
Began with a short trip to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and then onto a fantastic climb of the Solheimajokull glacier tounge. The travellers then went to the black sands beach and finished at Skogafoss waterfall… an amazing 200 feet high! It has been a remarkable trip that has been both incredibly enjoyable and educational: the experiences have been truly out of this world.
