“Lockers Park gives a well-rounded education that allows time for extra-curricular pursuits – both formal (music, art, drama, sport) and informal (time in the shrubs!).”

Abundant Opportunities

We place huge emphasis on educating the whole child. An excellent academic education is a given, but a Lockers Park education is about so much more.

Providing our boys with abundant opportunities beyond the classroom develops confidence, independence and breadth of interest. Pupils’ energies and passions are supported from the get-go by dynamic, tireless staff. Whether it’s Sports, Science & Technology, Music, Art, Drama, Cubs and Scouts, or Chess and Debating, pupils can enrich and broaden their knowledge and life experiences in so many ways. You just need to need the observe the energy and excitement in our classrooms on our Cross Curricular Days to see how inspired our pupils are to learn.

Sport for All

Our inclusive approach to Sports and Games encourages all boys to develop their own sporting passions, whatever their ability. Our pupils enjoy structured sport every day, which helps to build confidence, self-esteem and team spirit and boosts wellbeing. It also allows our boys to let off steam outside and have fun with friends.

We provide expert coaching in a wide variety of sports from the traditional Football, Rugby and Cricket through to Basketball, Badminton, Swimming and Squash. And every boy is given the opportunity to represent the school in competitive matches through his Lockers Park career, as well as participate in a range of Inter-Set (House) competitions, which often prove to be passionate and spirited events!

Music

Lockers Park is a school with music at its heart. We believe being able to play music enables personal expression and emotional development. Some nine out of ten pupils choose to learn a musical instrument, with many learning two or three. We have ten expert Music Teachers who take pupils for individual lessons.

We focus on the social aspect of music-making to ensure it’s as engaging and as interactive as possible. Many of the boys play in our orchestras and chamber groups or sing in one of our choirs.

The Music Department produces a full and vibrant calendar with highlights including Informal Concerts (where every boy performs), the Summer Concert, as well as performing at prestigious venues such as St John’s Smith Square in London.

Unsurprisingly, with all of these musical opportunities at their fingertips, Lockers Park pupils frequently win Music Scholarships.

Art

Art is a valued component of our curriculum, aiming to stimulate pupil curiosity, interest and enjoyment.

We encourage each boy to have fun and express their ideas and personality through their work. As well as traditional drawing and painting, boys are introduced to a variety of artistic mediums from sculpting in clay and plaster through to photomontage and collage. Pupils hone their artistic knowledge, skills and vocabulary by creating compositions and through looking at both great artists of the past such as Turner and Lowry as well as more recent artists including Damien Hirst and Banksy.

Art Extension Groups are available to talented artists as well as those who simply love the subject and there are plenty of opportunities to showcase work, including an eagerly-anticipated Art & Technology Exhibition in the Summer Term.

The Art Department has an excellent record for successfully supporting pupils who apply for art scholarships at a wide range of leading senior schools.

Drama

Drama at Lockers Park is dynamic and vibrant. Every pupil has the chance to perform in a variety of shows throughout the year, and bringing huge benefits to the boys’ self-esteem, confidence and communication skills.

Whether performing in a school play, writing a sketch, or entering LAMDA Speech and Drama exams (six out of every ten boys choose to take study for such exams), Lockers Park boys are actively engaged in developing important life skills that will enable them to become confident, expressive and collaborative adults.

Our productions include the stage management and technical aspects involved in live theatre, giving pupils the chance to experience a variety of roles.

Pupils are encouraged to regularly hone their talents by participating in school assemblies and debates, performing in musicals and plays – there are two large-scale drama productions every year – as well as competing in Inter-Set (House) Competitions.

Building Relationships

Our open, inclusive, small school community is both peer-to-peer and cross-year, encouraging the boys to work together and forge strong bonds.

Boys join one of six Sets (Houses) and strong camaraderie and support ensues. Nowhere is this more apparent than in our Inter-Set Competitions. Pupils are fiercely loyal to their Set and the competitions, spanning Maths and Science through to Sport and Music, are keenly contested, with a special supper awarded to the winning Set of each term.

Our pupils are eager to take on responsibilities and roles including Prefects and paters for our new boys, acting as mentors, guides and friends to help our newest pupils feel welcome.

Playing in the Shrubs

Our pupils also enjoy a diverse range of less structured activities where they can spend valuable time having fun with their friends, making the most of the school’s 23-acres of woodland. Whether it’s den-building in the shrubs of the Lockers Park grounds, spotting wildlife, playing table tennis or building go-karts, there really is something here for every boy.
